UNIQUE REAL-TIME TRACKING SYSTEM FOR 2007 HCW 24 HOUR RACE
-
A unique real-time tracking system for yacht racing will have its debut during the 2007 Heaven Can Wait 24-hour yacht race,
to be held on Lake Macquarie, south of Newcastle, NSW, on September 29-30.
-
The system, based on the EziTrak® system boat, car and mobile equipment tracking system developed by the Australian-based
Rojone, will allow real-time tracking of all yachts participating in the race.
-
Results, including handicap results, will be available with an hour or so of the race finishing.
-
Rojone’s EziTrak® system uses a combination of GPS and GPRS (mobile phone) technology to accurately track a yacht’s
or vehicle’s) course, reporting back to a central computer with positioning data every few minutes, with accuracies to
within a few metres.
-
In the case of the HCW 24-hour race, an EziTrak® GPS unit and transmitter – along with GPRS SIM cards
supplied by Telstra Glendale – will be provided to each boat, and provide an accurate log of each yacht’s course – and the
distance travelled over the 24 hours.
-
The boat which travels the furthest over the 31 Nm course during the 24 hours will be
declared the scratch winner. Handicaps will also be applied in real-time, so that handicap placings will be available at the
same time as the scratch placings.
-
HCW founder and organiser Shaun Lewicki said that the solution provided by Rojone was ideal for the 24-hour race – but it
would also have applications for other sailing events.
-
“Because this race is won by whoever achieves the greatest distance over the 24 hours – as opposed to a traditional yacht
race, where boats aim to do a set course in the shortest possible time – we can’t use conventional race-keeping methods.
-
“Rojone’s EziTrak® tracking system will cumulatively log the distance each boat travels over the 24 hours, and produce a
total distance travelled on the dot of noon on the Sunday,” he said.
-
“In addition, we’ll be able to view each boat’s course around the Lake in Google Maps or Google Earth – and skippers will
be able to relive the race, and view their opponents’ courses and tactics, once the race is finished.
-
”All participants in the HCW race will be given the opportunity to purchase the EziTrak® system from Rojone at a
significant discount – giving them the tracking system for future HCW races, but more importantly, giving them a complete
anti-theft and security system for their yachts.
-
A fully installed EziTrak® system is hooked up to bilge pumps, the engine and the battery meter, and can automatically
notify owners of any unauthorised or unusual events on their yachts, including theft, a dragging mooring, low battery,
or the bilge pumps working.
-
Lewicki said the EziTrak® yacht race tracking system would also have applications for other races, as well as cruising
yachties.
-
“Everyone one in the yacht racing world knows how difficult it can be for the race committee to accurately check boats
crossing the line early – especially in large fleets – as well as logging the correct finishing times and order, and
ensuring all boats have followed the correct course.
-
“A system such as EziTrak® will allow RCs to see who is over the line early, as well as accurately determine correct
placings and the course sailed – and this is something Rojone is keen to explore further.
-
“We also know there is strong potential demand in the sailing community globally for a simple, reliable system such as
EziTrak®,” he said.
-
“We have already had a number of strong enquiries from around the world, from yacht race organisers interested in this
system – so the eyes of the global sailing community will be on Lake Macquarie in late September.”
-
Livia Grabowski, managing director of Rojone, said EziTrak®’s involvement in the HCW 24 hour race was a great opportunity
to demonstrate the capabilities of the system – and also support the race’s key purpose: raising funds for cancer research.
-
“Rojone is delighted to have this opportunity, as it opens up a potential completely new market for us,” she said.
-
“We are also very pleased to be supporting this high-profile event to raise funds in the fight against cancer.
-
“Following the race, we will be happy to talk with other sailing organisations, both in Australia and around the world,
about how EziTrak® might work for them in managing yacht racing events.
-
”EziTrak® systems will be handed out to each competitor in the 24-hour race on the Friday evening or Saturday morning
immediately before the race.
-
All competitors will need to do is supply their credit card details as security for return of the systems following the
race, and ensure they have adequate battery capacity on board to power the system (the system does not require a large
amount of battery capacity). Full details of these requirements can be found on the HCW website at
www.heavencanwait.com.au

CSD DATA UPDATE
-
With the introduction and upgrade of the GSM Cell sites for 3G implementation we are observing a degrading of CSD
Circuit Switched Data) connection availability or in some cases a complete discontinuing of the service.
-
In the US the GSM networks do not provide any CSD capabilities only GPRS.
-
The Telco’s insist that CSD data communication is practically obsolete and they will not guarantee the availability of
this service in Australia, so its safe to assume that other countries will in the same boat.
-
Software upgrades are provided via a data connection. When we can’t connect via CSD our only other option is GPRS otherwise
the unit would need to be removed from the vehicle and returned to the factory which is rarely a good option for anyone.

AUSSIE MADE EziTrak HELPS FOIL NIGERIAN CAR THIEVES
-
Australian made and designed vehicle security and tracking system EziTrak® has been used by Nigertak Systems in Nigeria
to recover a stolen car after the driver was shot during a carjacking.
-
Earlier this month, a Toyota Camry was carjacked just before midnight in one of Nigeria's largest cities. The driver of the
vehicle was shot in the process, and the thieves escaped in the stolen vehicle.
-
The vehicle was fitted with EziTrak®. Within minutes, the vehicle was tracked and immobilised some 13 km from where it was
stolen. Using GPS coordinates from the EziTrak® unit, police were able to locate and recover the stolen vehicle. The driver
has been discharged from hospital and is recovering well.

STOLEN QUAD BIKE RECOVERED ARRESTS MADE
-
WA Police were successful in recovering a stolen Quad Bike in suburban Perth in February 2007. The Quad Bike was stored in
a shipping container and thieves used a bobcat to break into the container.
-
Within seconds of the Quad Bike being stolen, the owner of the bike received a phone call from the bike to advise of the
theft.
-
How can a Quad Bike call its owner when it's been stolen? Easy – when it has an EziTrak® GPS Security and Tracking System
installed.
-
Within seconds of the bike being tampered with, Mike Jones (the owner of the bike) received a phone call on his mobile from
the EziTrak® unit in the bike to advise of the theft.
-
With the help of EziTrak®'s WA distributor Ashley Electrical, Mike was then able to track the bike and get its location to
within 6 metres. Police were advised of the location of the stolen Quad Bike. The bike was recovered and arrests made in
relation to this and other matters. The bike's owner Mike Jones said;
-
“This is the first time that I've had a stolen item returned to me. To know that the thieves have been arrested is just a
bonus!”
-
A good result all round! Our EziTrak® customer got his stolen Quad Bike back and the police made arrests. All this from an
EziTrak® which can be installted for around $1,300!

URGENT PRESS RELEASE AUSSIE MADE GPS DEVICE BEATS NSW POLIC
-
Sydney driver Michael Simotas was charged with speeding by police officers using a handheld radar, allegedly doing 85 km/hr
in a 60 km/hr zone.
-
But Michael had a secret weapon in his car – an EziTrak® GPS Security and Tracking System. Michael was able to download the
black box from his EziTrak® unit which provided accurate, tamper-free data of the vehicle's traveling speed, position and
direction.Through this data, Michael was able to prove that his vehicle briefly touched 61 km/hr at the time he was charged
but was mostly traveling at 57 km/hr.
-
During the subsequent case and appeal, a GPS expert gave corroborating evidence and attested to the accuracy of GPS and the
inability to tamper with the data. This is the first case in NSW where GPS data has been admissible in evidence to contest
the accuracy of police radar.
-
So what is EziTrak®? EziTrak® is a security & tracking system which gives car and vehicle owners personalised,
self-monitoring with no ongoing back-to-base fees. EziTrak® utilises GPS and GSM technology to give the owner instant
tampering notification, control, tracking and emergency alert information over the phone.
-
EziTrak® has an internal Black Box Recorder logging speed, position, time and date from 1 to 255 hours. This information can
be downloaded to a PC and then played back on a moving map display. The data is accurate and cannot be tampered with.
-
EziTrak® was designed by Sydney based company Rojone Pty Ltd. EziTrak® is manufactured in Australia and is sold throughout
the country as well as being exported to the UK, USA and many other countries.

BOBCAT EXCAVATOR RECOVERED LESS THAN 24 HOURS AFTER BEING STOLEN!
-
July 2006 - late in the working day, a Bobcat excavator was stolen from a construction site on The Gold Coast, Queensland.
The vehicle was fitted with an EziTrak, and we were able to assist the owners access the GPS log from the black box to see
the movements of the vehicle.
-
First thing the next morning, local police and detectives turned up at the site which was full of containers.
Each container was opened until the stolen Bobcat excavator was found! The new "owner" had purchased it the night before
for $10,000 cash - considerably less than the Bobcat excavator was worth.
-
Police are now investigating and hope to lay charges soon, thanks to EziTrak.
